Server Rules

Updated February 20, 2026 Enforced by Staff Applies to all players
Ignorance of these rules is not a valid defense. Staff decisions during enforcement are binding — comply first, appeal later through proper channels. These rules apply to all players regardless of rank, tenure, or contribution.

Conduct & Respect Core

Zero Tolerance

All players must treat others with respect at all times. The following behaviors result in immediate suspension pending review — no warnings given:

  • Harassment — sustained or targeted behavior meant to intimidate, demean, or distress another player
  • Hate speech & slurs — language attacking individuals based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics
  • Doxxing — sharing private information about another player without their explicit consent
  • Threats — direct or implied threats of violence or harm
  • Stalking & coordinated abuse — organized efforts to target or harm another player
Account Responsibility

You are fully responsible for all actions taken on your account, regardless of who was using it. Sharing credentials is prohibited. If someone else uses your account and breaks rules, you face the full consequences.

Prohibited Content

NSFW content of any kind is not allowed. This extends to builds, skins, chat messages, voice conversations, and links. Impersonating staff or players, advertising other servers, mass messaging, or any form of spam is forbidden.

Communication Standards

All public communication must be in English to ensure staff can moderate effectively. This applies to both Discord and in-game chat. When staff give an instruction, it must be followed immediately and without argument.

Voice chat must remain respectful and non-disruptive. Excessive noise, mic spam, or soundboard abuse is not allowed. Discord usernames and avatars must follow the same standards as in-game skins.

Skins, Names & Capes

Impersonating staff or other players through skins, names, or capes is not allowed. Animated capes must follow the same standards. NSFW or offensive content is prohibited in all visual representations.

PvP System Updated

Consent-Based PvP

PvP is the act of causing damage to another player. PvP is allowed at any time when both players have PvP enabled. Fighting back counts as consent. If a player attacks while their PvP is off, their PvP is automatically turned on to prevent abuse. PvP can be turned back off only after a 3-minute cooldown so players cannot toggle out mid-fight.

Use /pvp on and /pvp off to control your PvP status.

  • Invisible players: if you are invisible, your PvP will be automatically turned on to avoid confusion
  • Thorns counts as engagement: thorns damage on your armor is treated as fighting back / engaging in PvP
Green — PvP is ON Yellow — 3-min cooldown (turning off)

The auto-trigger system records whether combat was mutual or one-sided, which keeps ticket enforcement straightforward.

Enforcement & Responsibility

Staff do not actively police normal PvP interactions. Players are expected to resolve their own conflicts unless a ticket is submitted.

  • Trespassing: defensive PvP is allowed only when the claim has clearly posted trespass warnings and the defender gives one verbal warning with enough time to leave
  • Stealing is not PvP justification: theft disputes are handled through tickets, not retaliation fights
  • Loot in consensual fights: the winner decides whether to return items or keep them
  • Pre-fight item return terms: if both players want items returned, they must agree before the fight starts

Griefing & Theft

Property Protection

Any modification, destruction, or unauthorized interaction with another player's property is considered griefing. This includes breaking blocks, placing blocks, stealing items, using containers, killing mobs, or altering redstone. Staff will roll back all damage and permanently ban offenders. Stolen items are always returned to the rightful owner.

Killing another player's pet counts as griefing. Stealing mobs (horses, villagers, camels, etc.) is not allowed. Mob caps exist but are kept moderate and at staff discretion.

Gameplay

Redstone, Farms & AFK

All redstone and farm designs are allowed, and AFK behavior is permitted. There are no hopper or redstone limits. However, players are responsible for ensuring their builds do not cause lag. If a build negatively impacts server performance, staff may require modifications or removal.

Farming Rules

Any farm without a clear sign marking it as private is considered public, and players may harvest from it as long as they replant. Private farms must be fully enclosed and clearly signed with the owner's name. Harvesting from a private farm without permission is treated as theft.

Fair Play

Exploits, duplication glitches, x-ray, freecam, auto-clickers, hacked clients, or any unapproved modifications are strictly forbidden. "I didn't know it was a glitch" is not a valid excuse. Any attempt to gain an unfair advantage through unintended mechanics results in an immediate ban.

Performance

Players may not intentionally create lag or degrade server performance. Chunk loaders of any kind are banned. If a build or machine causes measurable performance issues, staff may require changes or removal. Failure to comply results in escalating punishment.

Public Builds

All public areas — including spawn, roads, community structures, and event spaces — are protected. Altering, damaging, or obstructing these areas results in an immediate ban with no warning.

Nether & End

Players may claim land in the Nether and the End. Wither fights are allowed anywhere. The End will not reset, and all structures within it are treated as permanent world features.

Claims & Land

Property Claims

A valid claim must include a mailbox chest containing the owner's name, date, radius, and coordinates. The first player to build in an area has priority over the land. Claims extend from bedrock to build height.

  • Player name on sign or book
  • Date claimed (YYYY-MM-DD format)
  • Claim radius (max 50 blocks from building edge)
  • Coordinates (x, y, z)

Claim expansion is only allowed when the physical build expands — players may not reserve empty land.

Abandoned Builds

Builds belonging to players inactive for 20 days or more are considered abandoned. These builds may be claimed by others, but the new owner must significantly improve, expand, or fully rebuild the structure. Minimal or cosmetic changes do not count. Staff have final authority on what qualifies as improvement.

Inactivity

Players who are inactive for 20+ days without notifying staff forfeit all land, builds, and items. These assets become available for reassignment or claiming by active players.

Give staff a heads-up if you'll be away for an extended period to protect your claims.

Mods & Clients

Approved & Banned Mods

Allowed mods include minimaps, Litematica (without Easy-Print or auto-placement), shaders, performance mods, and general QoL enhancements. When in doubt, ask staff before using a mod.

Allowed

  • Minimaps
  • Litematica (no Easy-Print)
  • Shaders
  • Performance mods (Sodium, etc.)
  • Quality of life mods

Banned

  • Hacked clients
  • Auto-printers / Easy-Print
  • X-ray or Freecam
  • Combat assists
  • Auto-clickers
Alt Accounts

All alternate accounts must be verified by staff before joining. Unverified alts are banned on sight. Punishments may apply to all accounts linked to the same player, including the main account.

Streaming & Recording

Broadcast Requirements

Players must use /status when streaming to notify others. If recording or streaming in voice chat, you must inform all participants. Players may request not to be recorded, and this must be respected. Stream sniping is prohibited if the streamer has disabled PvP or requested privacy.

Economy & Trading Active

Coin-Based Economy

NewLife SMP uses a coin-based economy as the primary currency system. There are two types of coins:

  • Copper Coins — the base currency unit
  • Gold Coins — the higher denomination (1 Gold = 32 Copper)

New players receive 5 Copper Coins upon joining. Additional coins are rewarded for productive playtime during the early season to help establish the economy. Whitelist Gurus are also compensated in Copper Coins. Coins will never be purchasable in the shop.

Coins-Only Trading

All transactions must use coins. Direct item-for-item bartering is not permitted. If you want to trade items, you must sell your items for coins first, then use those coins to purchase what you need. For example, you cannot trade iron for lapis directly — you must sell the iron for coins, then buy the lapis with coins.

This rule exists to maintain a stable, trackable economy. Circumventing the coin system by bartering items is a violation and may result in fines.

Conversion & Commands

You can convert between coin types using the /convert command or by right-clicking the coins in your inventory:

  • /convert copper — convert 32 Copper into 1 Gold
  • /convert gold — convert 1 Gold into 32 Copper
Shop Signs & Displays

Players may not modify, remove, or tamper with other players' shop signs or pricing displays. Tampering with signs is considered griefing and will be treated accordingly.

Factions

Creating a Faction

To create a faction, open a ticket through Discord. Factions support member invitations, role management, and settings configuration. All faction activity is synchronized between Discord and Minecraft. Faction rules cannot conflict with server rules — server rules always take precedence.

Faction Commands

Factions are managed through in-game commands:

  • /faction invite <user> — invite a player to your faction
  • /faction kick <user> — remove a player from your faction
  • /faction disband — disband your faction
  • /faction info <name> — view information about a faction
  • /faction list — view all existing factions
  • /faction leave — leave your current faction
Territory & Villagers

Each faction is allotted a territory based on members and active structures. Factions also receive additional villager allotments beyond the per-player limit. To maintain server performance, villager limits are in effect:

2
per player
+10
faction bonus
War System

Faction wars are managed through commands and remain an organized conflict system between factions. Both faction leaders must agree before a war begins. War declarations do not override general Season 3 PvP policy, and staff only step in through ticketed moderation.

  • /faction war_declare faction:<name> — declare war on another faction
  • /faction war_accept faction:<name> — accept an incoming war declaration
  • /faction war_decline faction:<name> — decline a war declaration
  • /faction war_end faction:<name> — end an active war
  • /faction wars — view all active and pending wars

Check the faction channel on Discord to see who's at war or which factions are recruiting.

Enforcement

Punishment Ladder

Staff follow a structured punishment ladder. Severe violations such as griefing, exploiting, or damaging public builds skip directly to permanent bans.

Step Action Description
1 Warning Documented verbal or written warning
2 Fine In-game penalty (paid in coins)
3 Temp Ban Suspension for a specified duration
4 Perm Ban Permanent removal pending appeal

Immediate bans apply to griefing, exploiting, and destroying public builds — no prior warnings.

Evidence & Appeals

Evidence Standards

Staff rely on server-side data above all else. Server logs are retained for 90 days.

Valid Evidence

  • Server logs
  • Signed books
  • Plugin logs
  • Snapshots
  • Multiple witnesses (min. 2)

Invalid Evidence

  • Screenshots
  • Unsigned text
  • Client-side logs
  • Off-Discord messages
  • Private PvP agreements without server log support
Reporting

Tampering with evidence or submitting falsified reports is punishable. False reports are only punished if proven malicious. Anonymous reporting is allowed.

Appeals

Appeals must be submitted through the official ticket system. Include all relevant evidence and explain why the action was unjust. Punishments remain active until the appeal is reviewed and resolved.
